The Storm of Chaos

Generations after Magnus's triumph, the north rose again under a new and terrible Everchosen, and The Storm of Chaos broke upon the Empire of Man. Archaon, Lord of the End Times, led an army of Chaos warriors, beastmen and daemons out of the Wastes with a single purpose: to cast down the city of Middenheim and the faith it embodied.

The campaign carved a red road through Kislev and the northern provinces, and the Empire bled for every mile. Villages that had stood since Magnus's day were burned to their foundations, and the roads north became a graveyard of both armies. Even a mighty greenskin Waaagh under Grimgor Ironhide crashed into the Chaos flank, turning a war of two sides into a churning three-way slaughter that spared no one who stood upon that ground. Beastmen boiled out of every forest to fall upon the Empire's flanks, and the reeling provinces could scarcely tell one foe from another.

At Middenheim, the city of the White Wolf atop its great rock, the storm finally spent its fury. The defenders held the Fauschlag against assault after assault, priests of Ulric and Sigmar fighting side by side upon the ramparts with their old rivalry forgotten in the face of annihilation. A champion bearing the aspect of Sigmar himself rose to rally them at the last, and Archaon was thrown back from the walls, his grand design undone for a time.

The Storm of Chaos left the Empire scarred and grieving but unbroken, its northern lands a graveyard and its faith hardened in the fire. It stands as the last great victory of the old order, chronicled in full in the Storm of Chaos: the final time the men of the Empire turned back the darkness before the true End Times came for them all.
