The Wraithbone Spirit Stones

The Wraithbone Spirit Stones are among the most sacred artefacts of the Aeldari, crystalline gems worn upon the breast that catch the departing soul at the moment of death. Without them, the spirit of a slain Aeldari would be devoured in an instant by Slaanesh, the Great Enemy born of their race's ancient folly, and so every child of the stars guards their stone above life itself.

Grown rather than carved, the stones are wrought from the same living wraithbone that forms the hulls of the Aeldari craftworlds and the bodies of their spirit-constructs. When a warrior falls, their spirit stone is borne home and set into the Infinity Circuit, the vast psychic web of the dead in which the souls of the departed dwell in a kind of half-life, counsellors and guardians to the living.

In times of dire need, these captured spirits are called back to war, poured into the towering wraithbone bodies of Wraithguard and Wraithlords to fight once more for their people. To the Aeldari, the spirit stones are not mere jewels but the very survival of their soul-kind, the fragile line that holds back oblivion in a galaxy that hungers to consume them utterly.
