The Immolation-Pattern Support Squad carried the Legion's mastery of incendiary war to its heaviest and most ruinous extreme. Armed with forge-crafted heavy flamers and volkite weaponry drawn from Nocturne's deep vaults, these veterans anchored the XVIII Legion's battle line and turned open ground into a lake of unquenchable fire. Their weapons were relics as much as tools, each stamped with the maker's marks of the artificer who had wrought it and maintained with a reverence bordering on worship. Deployed to hold a chokepoint or break a massed assault, an Immolation squad would loose torrents of burning promethium and searing energy until the very air ignited, denying the enemy any path that did not lead through flame. During the Heresy such firepower proved vital to a Legion too few in number to trade blows evenly, letting a handful of Salamanders hold ground that should have required a company.
