Salamanders

The Salamanders are hulking, fire-breathing reptiles from the steaming jungles of memory, driven to battle in hunting packs by the daring skink handlers who goad and feed them. Each beast can spew a torrent of blazing, sticky ichor that clings to armour and flesh alike, immolating whole formations of the enemy and reducing them to ash and screaming ruin. The Seraphon prize these creatures for their ability to break tightly packed foes and to burn away those who shelter behind cover, for no shield-wall avails against a tide of living fire. The skink handlers ply their charges with morsels and sharp prods, keeping the ravenous beasts pointed at the foe and hauling them back before they turn on their own side in their gluttony. Slow and ill-tempered, the Salamanders are nonetheless a terror on the battlefield, wreathed in smoke and flame. Where they are unleashed, the enemy line dissolves into a rout, choked by acrid smoke and the stench of burning meat.
