Adrax Agatone

Adrax Agatone, honoured with the name Nocturne's Hammer, is the Captain of the Salamanders' 3rd Company, the Pyroclasts, and the Chapter's Master of the Arsenal. In him the twin identities of the Salamanders, warrior and smith, are perfectly joined, for the weapons he carries into war are ones he forged with his own hands at the volcanic furnaces of his home world.

He wields the thunder hammer Malleus Noctum, a weapon whose every blow falls like a landslide, and the hand flamer Drakkis, with which he purges those foes his hammer does not shatter. As Master of the Arsenal he oversees the Chapter's stores of wargear and the sacred labour of its forges, a role well suited to a warrior who understands that a blade is only as worthy as the hand and heart that guide it. Like all his kin he learned the smith's craft in the shadow of Nocturne's volcanoes, and the harsh rite of passage that saw him hunt and slay a great fire-drake tempered a warrior already renowned for his endurance.

After the birth of the Great Rift, Agatone chose to undergo the perilous surgery of the Rubicon Primaris, emerging reborn as a Primaris Space Marine. The transformation carried a bitter price: the brand-scars that the Salamanders sear into their skin to record their deeds were wiped away, the whole chronicle of his service smoothed into fresh, unmarked flesh, so that his greatest achievements must now be earned anew.

Grim and resolute, Agatone carries the conscience of his Chapter into every war. He has sworn a solemn oath that however dark the deeds the 3rd Company must undertake, he will never allow his warriors to become the instruments of tyrants and oppressors. In that vow lives the soul of the Salamanders, a people who fight not for glory or conquest, but for the protection of the weak against the horrors of a merciless age.
