Ravenwing Command Squad

When a Grand Master of the Ravenwing or another mounted lord of the Dark Angels takes to the field, he seldom rides alone. About him gathers a Ravenwing Command Squad, a handpicked escort of the most accomplished Black Knights, sworn to shield their commander and to lend their strength wherever the hunt grows fiercest. They are at once a bodyguard, a spearhead, and an instrument for the most delicate and dangerous of missions.

At the heart of the squad rides the Ravenwing Ancient, bearing aloft one of the company's hallowed standards. Beneath the shadow of that fluttering banner the black-armoured riders fight with redoubled fury, for the standard is a sacred trust and its fall would be an intolerable shame. Alongside the Ancient may ride a Ravenwing Champion to answer the enemy's mightiest warriors in single combat, and an Apothecary to preserve the precious gene-seed of the fallen, ensuring that even in death a brother's legacy endures.

Guided often by a Huntmaster, the Command Squad performs the swift, coordinated strikes that are the hallmark of the Second Company. They plunge deep into the enemy formation to seize a Fallen or shatter a command, then wheel away before a counterblow can land. To ride in such company is among the highest honours the Ravenwing can bestow, and those who earn it stand among the surest candidates for elevation into the Chapter's deepest mysteries.
